Originally from Scotland, Robert grew up in Plymouth in South West England. He started playing professionally at 15 and spent the next 5 years in rock bands touring Devon and Cornwall. During this time he worked with Geno Washington and Shakin' Stevens who had just become one of the UK's major pop stars.
5 years of playing jazz, country and cabaret followed, including a time backing some of the world's top acts such as the legendary Wilma Reading, who at that time was the resident singer on the Morecambe and Wise show. He was also playing on recording sessions making adverts and radio and TV programmes.
A move to London meant hundreds of gigs backing cabaret and theatre shows, gigs with jazz, reggae and Central American bands and yet more recording sessions.
In 1982 he moved to Sheffield and started touring the Northern Clubland in several highly successful bands. In 1995 he met Al Ibbotson and formed Jonny Seven.
Robert is also a member of the Rock'n'Roll Travelin' Theatre Company. They play many types of music but centre around a 1950s show based on the Golden Age of rock and roll. They perform everywhere from bars to stadiums.
